Favourite Tony Award Performances

Okay, so the Tony Awards aren’t actually happening until June, but The Advocate posted a list of their favourite Tony  performances earlier this week, and I was inspired to share a few I would’ve put on the list. If this is up your alley you might want to check out the Feminist Guide to Broadway Musicals post I did just over a year ago. I’m not sharing the performance from The Color Purple today because the video was already part of that post.

First one they did include which I loved. Here’s Bea Arthur and Angela Lansbury singing “Bosom Buddies” from Mame:

Stephanie J. Block sings “Get Out and Stay Out” from 9 to 5:

The OBC of RENT reprises some of the musical’s best songs for the 2008 Tonys:

Last but not least, Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth perform “Defying Gravity” from Wicked (although I wish the intro was less patronizing):

The F Word UK also listed some feminist icons from classic musicals this week. What’s your favourite musical or musical character?
